400 PILOT / AIRCRAFT OWNER
VOLUNTEERS
ARE NEEDED TO FLY
400 Hurricane Victims FROM
We have had reports that some FBO's have been giving very substantial discounts to pilots participating in Operation Teacup, while others have been giving nominal discounts or none at all.
One pilot reported that they were given discounts from the posted $5.00+ fuel prices down to a more "reasonable" $3.77 by a FBO who had advance notice that they were coming in with a family. The receptionist, on her own, also had clothes and toys for the family and children when they arrived and gave them the red carpet treatment
We had a similar experience negotiating with a FBO in Denver. The clerk first offered a .05 discount, but when the larger discount was related, we were passed to the manager, who said he would pass the request on to the higher ups, who he thought would "match the competition" or possibly "donate a load of fuel".
For our pilots who have been paying their own way, and receiving no support from anyone except their own personal bank accounts, this can provide worthwhile savings
Translation.
It appears that when notified in advance of arriving flights, the FBO's may give much
more substantial discounts if the matter is handled discretely. It would be well worth while to advise
the FBO and try and negotiate a more substantial discount, in advance by telephone"
They have a business to run, and bills to pay, just like everyone else, so they are stretching things a lot to do this, just as the pilot is, who is digging into his own pocket. So, handle the matter carefully.
Good public relations go a long way in getting the job done, quickly, quietly, an at the least possible pain.

2005-09-15 Today we received a request to help evacuate 400 persons. These people have relatives all over the United States who will provide housing if they can get where their relatives are.
If you don't have an airplane, but would still like to help get the word out, PLEASE download the below form, print it out, and post it at your local airport in the pilot lounge or flight room bulletin board for other pilots to see
If you are going to make a flight in the next few days, make some extra copies and post them on the bulletin boards at your destination(s)
It is likely that this need to evacuate people will go on for months, from the stories I have heard from people at the shelters in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, LA
It appears there will be an ongoing need for transportation in and out of the area both to bring in supplies and medical people and to take out refugees
If you don't own an airplane but would like to help with some of the important other
work, I need the following help
If yo have experience in writing press releases and dealing with newspapers, radio/TV stations and would like to help write press releases to submit to the media, please send me an email detailing your experience. I NEED YOUR PHONE NUMBER and I also need to know about your aviation experience. i.e. license, ratings, aircraft owned if any, etc.
This is a two part task
1. Writing the News Release
